Tacoma Plant Visits Local School to Teach Science Classes
On February 25 and 26, 17 Tacoma employees traveled six miles down to Cougar Mountain Middle School to teach seven 7th-grade science classes about Toray and our plant. Volunteers from various departments – from Technical and Supply Chain Management to Sales and General Affairs – educated 175 students on carbon fiber applications.
After the presentation, students were given the opportunity to test out some of Toray’s ultrafiltration (UF) membranes. Using filters and orange juice, they learned how filtration membranes are used to create drinkable water in a sustainable manner.
As the first volunteer science class event since 2019, Toray employees can find this a great opportunity to teach students about a local company with worldwide environmental impacts. We hope to continue collaborations with schools in the Bethel School District and find opportunities to inspire the younger generation.
