United Way Day of Caring – Decatur Plant
The United Way Day of Caring is an annual event that mobilizes the power of volunteers from local companies and community residents. Their 30 non-profit partner agencies can request assistance from local companies in the form of physical labor for improvement projects and donating needed supplies. Held on September 14th, 2022 this event allowed the DE plant to give back to the community with the help of 13 CMA DE employee volunteers in addition to items bought with money donated from other CMA employees. CMA DE participated in three different projects for the Day of Caring.
CMA DE employees donated 54 items valued at approximately $900 to Hope Place for their Linen Drive. Sheet sets, towels, and pillows were the items donated. Hope Place offers confidential emergency shelter to adult and child victims of domestic violence in Morgan County.
CMA DE employees completed 2 requested projects for The Salvation Army. The Salvation Army offers a variety of services for people in need such as a food pantry, emergency food and clothing vouchers, transitional housing, case management, and Emergency Disaster Response. Several CMA DE employees pressure washed the worship center and food pantry buildings and sidewalks. Other CMA DE employees completed several landscaping projects around the administrative office, playground, and transitional housing units. These projects included raking leaves, trimming bushes, and sweeping the areas around the office, playground, and transitional housing units. Old mulch and old fencing were also removed from the playground by CMA DE employees.
The participation of CMA DE in The United Way Day of Caring was very successful thanks to the financial and physical contributions of the CMA DE employees. These efforts are critical to the community agencies because they free up much needed funds for the organizations. It was a very rewarding way to give back to the community and the CMA DE team looks forward to participating in this worthwhile project again next year.
