Decatur Plant Coordinates “Day of Caring” with United Way of Morgan County
United Way of Morgan County coordinates a Day of Caring each year to support its partner agencies. This is their largest one-day volunteer event annually, and it was held on September 10th this year. Partner agencies submit requests, and local companies sign up to complete these projects. These requests meet a variety of needs including pressure washing, painting, landscaping, cleaning, construction, repairs, and donations of needed items.
Toray CMA participated again this year to complete three different service projects with the help of 17 volunteers from teams throughout the plant. The first team worked at the Arc of Morgan County completing landscaping around the building, pressure washing their playground equipment, cleaning up raised garden beds, and other small tasks. The Arc of Morgan County serves the community by providing resources for people with cognitive, intellectual, and
developmental disabilities. The second team worked at the Albany Clinic of the Mental Health Center of North Alabama painting, pressure washing, landscaping, and adding mulch. This work improves the appearance of the building while allowing their workers to focus on providing comprehensive mental health services for those in need. Finally, donations were collected to purchase cleaning supplies for Habitat for Humanity. These cleaning supplies are provided to the new homeowners as another way to help them start their journey.
Day of Caring serves as an opportunity to bless these partner agencies that do so much to help those in need in our community. It is a great reminder of the challenges that so many people around us face, and the difference that we can make in people’s lives if we take the time to see and respond to the needs around us.
