'Ikebana' Classes Held for TCA Associates
January 15, 2014
Toray Composites values the blending of cultures present throughout the company, and embraces the opportunity for our employees to become enriched with information about different cultures and traditions. On January 15th, TCA’s Noriko Cho taught two classes in a series about making ‘Ikebana,’ or Japanese floral arrangements. Ms. Cho is a master of Ikebana style.
This month’s class featured information about Japanese New Year’s traditions, and how people make Jiyuka (free style) arrangements for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. The associates who attended Ms. Cho’s classes learned how Japanese people prepare for New Year’s Day, and what kind of activities are typical for the holiday – including giving gifts, eating traditional foods, and visiting temples and shrines.
After learning about the elements of designing a Jiyuka arrangement, each class participant got to try making their own Ikebana. The arrangements turned out beautifully, and our associates look forward to the next opportunity to attend one of Ms. Cho’s classes to learn about Japanese culture and new styles of Ikebana.
