Associates Donate Holiday Gifts

December, 2010

Toray Composites America coordinated CMA with gifts with the Bethel School District to provide gifts to local families in need for the holidays. In 2009, TCA provided gifts for four families. This year, TCA requested gift request tags from eight families. The school district delivered 46 ornament tags on December 7th; TCA displayed the ornaments on the company tree beginning December 9th. Employees were encouraged to take a tag to make a charitable gift, and TCA pledged to match all employee donations.

For each tag an employee fulfilled, TCA fulfilled the wishes on another tag. Within just one day, all tags had been taken from the tree, and employees were asking for more. TCA immediately requested more tags and received wishes from two more families, for a grand total of 56 Christmas wish tags. Those additional tags were quickly claimed by employees before two production shifts had a chance to participate.

As a result, crew leader Lena Begnaud set up a food drive for those crews. The result was 50 pounds of food, with toys and gifts in abundance. Once again, the generosity of TCA employees surpassed expectations.

TCA is very pleased to have participated in this community service activity. We look forward to having a Giving Tree again, and expect to get involved earlier and do even more in 2011.

TCA Wins Safety Award

January 26, 2010

Toray Composites America (TCA) is Safety Award Edit the 2009 recipient of the John D Spellman Safety Award from Evergreen Safety Council (ESC). ESC is a private, non-profit organization located in Seattle, serving the businesses and communities of the States of Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska through the dissemination of safety and health information and training.

This annual safety award was established by the 18th Washington State Governor in order to recognize member organizations which have demonstrated significant improvement or achievements in their safety program.

TCA was selected to receive the award out of 257 member organizations. The award ceremony was held in Seattle on January 26, and TCA was represented by President and CEO Mr. Toshiyuki Kondo, Director of Operations Mr. Hank Duran, Environmental Manager Mr. William Avalone, and Mark Haller, Safety Manager.

In 2009, TCA refocused its efforts on safety with an emphasis on associate involvement, hazard identification, and corrective actions. To accomplish these, TCA held activities and special events that all served to put safety on associate minds before they begin their work day, reinforce identification of unsafe conditions and work practices, and encouraged taking corrective actions to rectify those identified situations. Through efforts of all associates, TCA earned this special award. Looking to the future, TCA is continuing to focus on safety and has set a "Zero Accident" goal for 2010.
